Fuchs help

Post by markh »

I've just got a set of 15 x 6 Fuchs to replace my shabby steels and am looking for some advice on tyres.

I've searched through the forums but can't seem to find an answer!

Also, where is best to get a nice set of polished wheel nuts? Somewhere in the US?

Thanks,

Mark

The wheels nuts are alvailable in the US I bought a set off a chat who makes them in the US.. seam ok..

and they are chrome..

the tyres ,there are different people saying different things..

I went for 195,65,15's seams to be the norm.. but there thinner ones. don't go the 205's route you will just regreat it I think.. too wide body rub and alsorts of issues..

check out Michealdever tyres your way and get a set of 4 I got a set of 4 dunlop sports for about £130

lots of pictures with my car with the tyres on.. so have a look at the ride heights etc..

So when we seeing it on the road?

That's a big help, thanks!

It's on the road already, just doing bits and pieces here and there as the resto progresses... I've been taking in a few good runs (especially on weekends as nice as the one we just had) to get the new braking system bedding in and the car just seems to feel better and better!

I got my polished lug nuts from Performance Products here in the U.S. You'll probably get a good deal with the exchange rate etc

Also check out www.pelicanparts.com

Its also worth getting a soft lug nut socket tool (available at performance products or pelican), helps prevent scratching your shiny new nuts!

Hope this helps...

Hi, sorry to threadjack as it were but what is the ride height on your 912 mark, it looks great. I have a 6808 911t but it is really slamed which I don't think I like that much, it looks a bit wierd to me. I was going to post a pick but photobucket isn't working.

Better late than never. I think it's way too low. When you say standard is that UK or US. US was higher I believe, or did I dream that?

I can confirm the 205 route, too big on my steels

Fuchs need spacers! and steel nuts as the ally ones don't have enough thread to be safe.

Was some talk about Smart car wheels for 356's to give a lower tyre wall but don't know if that was for 4.5 or 5.5 tho

Can anyone else confirm Alloy or steel nuts for the fuchs? Everything I've read states that alloy nuts need to be used.

How will steel nuts having more thread make any difference unless you are saying that the ally ones bottom out? The thread length is on the stud the nut just tightens up to the wheel. I've got ally ones on mine (no spacers mind) and they fit snuggly into the wheel recess without bottoming out in the nut.

Also I used to run smart car front tyres (145/65 x 15's) on the front of my beetle with 5.5J rims. they give fantastic clearance but do make the ride even harsher than normal. Although I'm assuming that you're refering to smart car rears 175/55 x 15's for the 356? About the same overall height as the fronts but with a little more grip.

Also if you are using steel nuts to attach to alloy wheels you should make sure that the touching faces are coating (anodized, powder coated, chromed etc) as over time steel and aluminium will react and you will get the steel rusting and aluminium oxidising.

I don't think I'll be up there until next year now, it'd be nice to have the two next to each other and get some pics, ace cafe porsche night maybe? Saying that, have you got any other pics of your car in that garage so I can see the ride height from different angles? I think I shall raise mine back to stock, it dun'alf go through front tyres when it's this low!
Also, was it you that had my old short shifter? Just wondered how you got on with it?

With my spacers I have less thread holding the wheel on.

less thread, soft alloy. So same principal as with racing – steel nuts are stronger so less chance of failure.

The hub that attaches your wheel and the studs are steel so the same applys to the rusting oxidising as the nuts/fuchs suppose?
