Found a little history on my 912

Post by MartinP »

The previous owner came up with the address of the guy he bought it from. No phone number so a quick search came up with someone of the same name a few miles away. Turns out it was him! Unfortunately, he bought the car in the early 1990s from two young lads who were travelling through California and bought the 912 as transport before importing it into the UK. He bought it from them via Exchange & Mart and therefore has absolutely no details. :(

Rather looks like the search stops here then...

you write for a living, so why not do an article about the car for an american magazine and ask if anyone knows more.

you never know someone might have a old photo of it at a show or event and maybe even remember who owned it.

If you can find out the original Dealers name from Porsche US you may be able to find the original owner and work forward from that.

I managed (took two years mind) to find the original owner of my car having written about 30 letters to people of the same name in California. Eventually found the guy, he still has Porsches and was quite interested to hear from me, although never sent me any pics :( He bought a 912 for himself as a graduation present (as you do) but that was stolen after a few weeks, the replacement was the one I have, at least I hope it's the replacement!

Interesting stuff for the history file...

Sometimes I think I have too much time on my hands!

Well the original dealer was a VW dealer in Culver City - Volkswagen Pacific Inc - have searched under the name and cannot find anything in existence today so far. Any pointers Gavin?

I've just found an old address for that dealer:

Volkswagen Pacific Inc
11300 Playa Street
Culver City
California

Reckon it would be worth me contacting Volkswagen US and seeing if they have any knowledge?
