993 (1994) *SOLD*, and 356 Search

Post by Robbies »

We live just around the corner from Roger Bray and his restoration workshops in Devon and after attending his open day last Saturday (which left me with the highest admiration for him and his team whose work is superb) I am prompted to search for my father's 356 C or SC that he had in the late 60s. It was dark grey and had the plate "2 JOT" - we always referred to the car as JOT. Does anyone know if it and/or the plate is still out there? Please pass the word around your contacts, or let me know where I might get more information.

RE my 993, you can see full details at
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/209500.htm but in short it is Aventura Green with black, heated, electric leather seats, FSH, 86,600 miles with nothing to do to it but love it and drive it! Again, please pass the word around to anyone you know who, like me, can't quite reach the dizzying prospect of 356 ownership... just yet!

Many thanks for your help in advance.

Best wishes,

Robbie

If you go here
http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPor ... =link.next

It tells you if a vehicle is still taxed......unfortunately yours comes up as "no info could be found"

Thanks, Andy - so does that mean that I'm completely flummoxed or just temporarily delayed..?? Is there any kind of register that keeps a record of cars written off and therefore no longer on the road? (I don't have any useful info like chassis or engine numbers which might help, perhaps).

Thanks,

RObbie

If you write to the DVLA they may be able to give you some history on the number. Also the Kithead Trust hold a lot of old registration information and maybe able to tell you when the number was registered to your car. This may get you closer to when your car was manufactured and the VIN number. The more information you can remember about the car when it was new the easier it will be to find the VIN number.
I have a book on research car histories, I will dig it out and have a look. This may take a while though as I have recently moved.
It is likely that the number plate has been sold off at some point, it's probably worth a fair bit of money. There's also a possibility that the car is no longer with us of course, a lot of the UK cars were scrapped in the 70's and early 80's.
