The pictures were just taken, at night with no flash, so everything turned yellow, but I can take another ones by day, and send them by e-mail.

Different mountings to those for a 69-72 911 - the lenses are the same - just the backings are different - they should mount from the rear for a 911/ late 912.

Thanks for the input Ian!

:-)

From what I've heard, both mounts are used. I've been looking for these 169 fog lights (both mounts) for quite some time now, and everyone kept telling me they were impossible to find!!!
The only ones I've found for sale were here on DDK, from Philip (pmjt) and he was asking 500 Euro for them. Maybe the different mount is the reason I've found these almost half price...
Anyway, if one really wants to, there's always the possibility of removing the top mount and weld a straight screw to the back of the metal box, as both the front box-frame and lenses are exactly the same – check the 169 ref on the lens!

Cheers!

Vasco

you are right in that the only difference is the where the mounting plate is positioned.

The ones pictured were used on some of the early '70s BMWs and if you look carefully at one of the late 60's Monte Carlo rally 911's they were used there too.

The standard 911 (1969 to 1972/73) was not delivered with that mount. They where backmounts that fitted the factory bumper mounting holes.

There are two different types of correct backmounting 169, one of them with a slightly angeled backmount, may have been an aftermarked type, but will fit the 69-72/73 bumper.

If somebody needs pics I can post them.

It's funny that you mention that John, because I've seen cars with both mountings for the Hella 169 (or 132 as they sometimes are referred as well), from above and from behind. This this weekend I'll try to take some pictures of an original 1969 T with mountings from above. Could it be because the front bumper was from the previous generation 911 – prepared for the 128s with the mounting from the top?
Or maybe it's just another case were we are much more purists than the factory was at some point? Maybe we should no forget that some decisions made at the production line were not so linear, and that sometimes the cars came out with the only parts available...

Vricardo; you might be right about the bumper coming from a pre 69 car. And I am of course not 100% sure, but I have never seen a 69-72, live or in pictures, with top mounted 169. I have not heard them being called 132 either, but some refer to them as Hella 139. I guess some dealers or owners could have mounted aftermarket top mounted 169(139) on some car and modified the bumper mount? We will probably never know...

What is sure is that the top mounted ones are less expensive then the rear mounted ones, and therefore might be a good alternative for someone that want the right look, but are not to purist about the mounting.

There is some info and pics of these lights on the Early911Sreg forum.

Thanks for the update John!
And you're right – I meant 139, NOT 132...!
I'll check Early911Sreg.
