Steering Bearing

Post by 1972_911t »

I’ve just been examining my steering column and appear to be missing the upper bearing. I rang roger bray for a quote on this part and he quoted £112 + Vat I also tried mittlemotor who list a similar price. What’s so special about this bearing and is there an alternative?

At first glance I'm in the same boat !. .... but bearings don't dissappear ?
Is there a "set up" which has no top bearing , and just uses the steering wheel "bush" as an upper location ?? (car is 1966 build)
Royal Enfield .. still in India
GL 1800 Tour DCT, for pleasure / Fantic 240 Professional - play
Rally 911 (1966) build parked for a while
Rally 928 (work started again - inc serious weight loss programe !)
.... and now another VW Up GTI owner.

Ok Ive just realise that the bearing isnt actually a ball type as I thought its just simply a matal bush and the other half is on the back of my steering wheel, so the good news is I dont need one. Still carnt beilve the cost of a new one though.
