Are we talking a type 4 or type 1 vw here?

I would be very surpried if you could get a reliable 204HP out of a 2276cc

1766cc will give about 90HP. What about the torque curve.

To get that sort of power and a reliable engine you are talking serious money. I'd rebuild my 616 first.

200 bhp from a 2276 is possible BUT it will be a VERY peaky 'drag' motor with some pretty serious heads & a wild cam. If you are wanting a nice driver you want to be looking at getting a nice torque curve, and with a type1 2276 you will be looking around 160 bhp for a motor with suitable 'road' torque characterisics.

from a 'purists' view, I'd stick with the original engine. If you are doing a good job on the rest of the car it seems a shame not to keep the original motor. From a pure resale point of view, a 912 with vw engine will never be worth as much as an 'all 912', and looking at the 912 market they seem to be getting more popular and more expensive all the time

Pete can't understand why we want to even look at rebuilding our orginal 912 units spend £6k and only get 115BHP..

A well sorted 912 motor with a set of standard p/c set is going to cost about £1500 to do ( work your self )

a well sorted and improved ( oil filter 1720 and mild cam ) is going to cost a further £2000

a very well sorted ( ali oil cooler, new springs better cam solex's rebuilt properly and some mild modding to heads new exhaust ) a further £1500 on top of that.

rought idea. giveing about 115-120 Bhp and well balanced engine with some nice low down torque..

Pete's way is 220 BHP from a Type 4 for £3500

both are right as such but the Porsche way is best I feel. And at the end of the day it's all Porsche. The 912 with a 118bhp is going to chase 911 T's all day long.. and they are not slow.
