Front Targa Seals (2.2)

Post by early2.2S »

Recently had my Targa roof externally refurbed and decided to order new front targa seal and both side seals at the same time from Forest Fine.
When i picked up the car from the trimmer he explained that the front targa seal was not long enough and that he had had to chop 3-4 inches off each side of the old seal so that the new targa seal would reach the front door seals with no gap in between.
Thought this a bit strange so rang Forest Fine who assured me that this is how new Front targa seals come these days and that you are supposed to stretch them before you put them on and then clamp them every 3-4 inches so that it reaches the door seal!!
As no-one tells you this i am at a loss to work out how you are supposed to know this! There are certainly no instructions to tell you this!
Anyone else had the same experience or is this an old topic that has been raised more times than you care to remember??
Regards
Stuart

WE have done 2 Targs recently using FF seals with no problems or tricks. I hadn't heard that one before

I have heard of minor problems fitting targa seals only when late and early seals are mixed up, for example early roll bar seals and later door seals. I have not seen this first hand but it may be the problem. I have just ordered all new seals and window runners for a targa and will see how they fit.

Not cheap are they

Maybe i am mixing up later door seals with early targa seals - the guy at FF said that he often gets phone calls about the front targa seal not meeting the door seal so i'm obviously not the first - nor probably the last.
If he knows of the problem makes you wonder why he doesn't make you aware of it when you buy the seals........
