Flat Tyres

Hi Guys

I have a set of deep 6's on my car (date stamp 1970) and one of the tyres is loosing pressure, I have had the tyre removed the rim cleaned up and the tyre replaced but it is still leaking. The tyre fitter looked at my other rims and said that the others had tubes in them, do you have to run tubes in these rims or can you run tubeless, and if you can run tubless how do you stop them from weeping/leaking.

Hello

Your 911 is meant to have tubes, i have a 911 t 2.2 i recently had both of
my rear tyres changed over to michelin's and found out there was no tubes
in both of the wheels the tyres shop showed me both of my valves were distorted and badly damaged, i have been quite lucky i didn't have a blow out

the guy had to order me two tubes thing was i had no
transport to get home had to walk six miles not very happy my fault though i should have checked first

If you use the search facility on this subject you will find a number of similar threads...

From a purely personal point of view, I have run several different early 911's on 'deep six' & 7R Fuchs wheels over the past 10 years with tubeless tyres.

All of these cars have had uprated engines/brakes/suspension & have been driven hard - I have never had any problems whatsoever.

Also check the Pelican parts & early 911S Registry websites in the US - many (most ?) early 911 owners run there cars on tubeless tyres...

Is this just deep 6's and 7's? I am running normal 6's on tubeless tyres and haven't had any problems? I've never seen anything about the need for tubes before.

All 7s will be ok, bar the 7Rs. It only the deep 6s and earlier fuchs that use tubes.

There seeem to be some opposite opinions coming from this thread !

I have recently had my deep sixes (1/71 &2/71) renovated and my mechanic had them fitted with tubes due to the unavailability of the correct valves.
Is there any significant detriment in running these wheels/tyres with tubes ?

None at all. I have also never had a problem getting the valves, most tire fitting places around me have them in stock.
