Fitting Seat Rails ??

Hi,

Can anyone advise how the seat rails fix inside my '68 car? Ther are tapped holes either side of the handbrake area for the inner rails but how are the outer rails fixed. All I can see are oval shapped offset holes adjacent the inner sills.

Also, how does the forward/backward seat adjustment meachanism work? There doesn't seem to be anything for the sprung lever to engage with. Perhaps if anyone has a picture it will all become clear.

Last request..., can anyone advise a good source of period style seat belts?

The leaver engages with holes that are on either side of the central tunnel at the side of the handbrake.

The outer rail should mount similar to the inner one except the rail has a spacer plate from the bottom of the spacer to the flat section of sill it sits on.

The photo below shows the cutouts on the tunnel where the leaver engages and on the far inner sill you can see the flat section where the other rail/spacer sits and bolts there should be some captured nuts below the holes to take the bolts.

Here is a pic of the outter seat rail support. Early cars are slight different in that they have locking slots for the seat.

Hi all,

I found the angled metalwork that engages with the seat locking mechanism. It appears that on the early pre '69 cars, these fit to the inner sills. Ok, fine, ....... my problem is that the offset and elongated holes on the inner sills aren't fitted with captive nuts so I can't see how the metal works bolts into place.

Can anyone with an early car solve the riddle?

Hi,

There should be some captive nuts on the top section which enables you to bolt the seat rail support. Are you sure they are not there?

I just looked through my pics and found this, The car is a 66 and you and see the seat runner which bolts to the seat rail support. This in turn bolts on the sill area.

Thanks for the reply.

I've looked closely but there aren't any captive nuts on sill area where the seat rail support sits. Just elongated holes in the sheet metal.

It could be that the floor has had repairs in the past and someone forgot the nuts, although it looks original. I'll have to think about how to get around it.
