Sluggish new Rev Counter/Tachometer
Just fitted a new (refurbished) 10K Rev Counter to my '72 911 2.7RS Spec Car. It seems very sluggish, ie I rev the engine and the Tach takes a moment to catch up to where the engine is. Its accurate if I hold the throttle at whatever revs. The old tach and the tach on my 3.2 Carrera have no delay at all.
Any ideas??
Thanks

Thanks for your thoughts, I got the tach here on DDK, will ask who did the refurb.
There must be a problem somewhere as the tach is definately much slower to react than the original.
If anyone else has any suggestions.....
Thanks

Very quickly (and not wanting to do a hyjack
) often bouncing tacho's are because of points prolems: dwell, poor contact and poor connectors/connections are all worth looking at: esp. if you've been doing any engine work.
This concludes thread hyjack

i changed to MSD (no points) and the rev counter became a lot more crisp. As a side effect it also started better, idled like a turbine and now revs like a banshee saw

The problem was not apparent with the previous rev counter. The 10K Tach was rebuilt by North Hollywood Speedometers, think I may send them an email and see what they come up with.
Steve, which MSD have you got fitted?

the 6AL unit plus the contact breakerless unit (can't remember it's name), as well as their coil. it comes with 3 rev limiter chips (5, 6 & 7000rpm I think, but you can buy 200rpm increments very cheaply). i just figured it was better to replace the whole lot on a newly rebuilt engine. I had it mounted under the passenger seat to retain an original look. cheer, Steve

And whilst we are on the subject, can anyone recommend a pointless system, the Pertronix Ignitor, is the only one that seems to get a mention....

hi guys. Autofarm (Nick Fulljames) did the set up/instal. MSD also supplied the pointless system (effectively a collar around the dizzy shaft and a hall-effect monitor that goes where one set of points would've been. cheers, Steve
