G50 Box Short shift option Carrera CS
I know it's not strictly relating to an early 911, but doesn't anyone know anything about the G50 on the carrera clubsport
In an article in 911&PW earlier this year it mentioned the short shifter for the G50 as an enhancement - does anyone know if this can be applied to other 3.2's of the same era?
And whilst we're in anorak mode.......
It also talks about slightly different engine mounts for those cars - anyone know how different, why they are different, and again is it a mod worth carrying over to mine
Thanks for any help, or pointers in the right direction
Mark

The CS had lots of bits changed, but as one of our guys aptly pointed out in a discussion about Clubbies, Porsche left the 'juicy hanging fruit' of the heavy clutch, pressure plate, battery, exhaust etc and went for the easy stuff; deleting the passenger sun visor etc. Those cars could have been much lighter.
You can fit the short shift to any car but some short shifts are better than others. The factory one is the one they all want.
The M637 engine mounts are shared with Cabrio, but then the Cab and Speedster have an additional vibration damper that the coupes do not have/need.
I dunno whether top gear was taller than the rest, it was 38/40kgs lighter and had a slightly higher rev limit so had a few mph extra, but I think the ratios were the same. I'm no expert though. IIRC a certain ex-Club Sport owner saw a gps-verified 152mph and climbing somewhere in the South East (no comment on the location Constable).
Thanks for the plug Nick (nearly a CS owner from new himself)

OK you asked for it!
I actually ordered one back in October 1987 from Maltin Porsche in Henley, Oxfordshire, but I didn't take delivery. The invoice price was £34,389.98
I have the original spec sheet which was just a photo-copied sheet from Porsche GB.

Thanks for all that
John/Nick - do you know where I could get hold of a
I've not seen any short shift kits advertised for G50's - plenty for 915's but none for G50's
Cheers

Two names spring to mind on G50 shifters/kits: Wevo and Weltmeister.
Wevo G50 here - page 2.
Weltmeister G50 SS fitting guide.
