handbrake cables

Typical, 2 days before my MOT & after a very quick blast over the Dales I stop in a carpark for a breather, pull the handbrake on & nothing happens

Anyway, I'm going to a have an investigation tonight to see wether the cables have come off the yoke at the handbrake or if one cable has snapped etc ...

I know the handbrake mechanisms from Porsche 944's & VW's inside out & I am assuming the 911 one will be the same.

I'm going to unbolt the handbrake assy tonight. Anyone got any helpfull tips regarding the handbrake / heater / throttle handle assembly for inspecting & fitting new cables?

When I pulled my handbrake assembly apart to replace a part of the hand throttle, I had to disconnect the handbrake cables from the rear to remove it...

I guess therefore that if you can remove the assembly without resorting to this that you likely have a cable issue.

You can remove the cables at the front without letting off the tension at the back by pulling out the clipped pin under the laver.

James, I would start at the back by taking the wheels and discs off to see what (or what's not) happening.

just got back in from the garage

Have not been on here since I posted the question

Anyway I whipped off the rear calipers & discs to find the handbrake assembly on both sides had removed itself from the shoes

Put it all back together & bish bash bosh a working handbrake ..... just wish I had checked the rear before taking the handbrake / levers to bits

Bit of a bitch to get that all together

Not quite sure how both sides ended up like this? I'm thinking maybe after some real hard suspension compression on the Yorkshire Dales had something to do with it

well done on finding the fix - and I'm really sorry I couldn't help today - my head feels like it's full of saw dust so I wouldn't have been much use to you
