In the distance you can see that old man in his bl*@dy japanese 4x4 that refused to get out of my way  Maybe if he actually had his rear view mirror pointing in the right direction he might have noticed me sooner :)

Just back after leaving the CB Inn at about 11.30am this morning. What a great weekend - thanks James for all your organisation. Top company, top place, top food, top cars - superb. Rosie had a great time too - she even drove the 911 some of the way back  I think the gearbox has just about recovered!

I took loads of pics so wil start to upload a load in a minute or two. I've got another vieweing on my house in a minute so I'll do it as soon as possible.

I didnt have the benefit of having a camera with me, so allow me to summarise the weekend with a few observations for those who sadly werent there.

Fri evening: arrive at the CB inn.

Everyone arrived a leisurely pace. I was running late, Mike already called me to inform that the traffic on the M1 was bad. Took the A1, filled up at Scotch corner, as per James' instructions. Met drummerboytom and his partner in the 914.

He left a few minutes earlier then me so I thought I could possibly catch him. No chance. The roads in Yorkshire are truly, utterly stunning. Totally empty and deserted, bar wildlife. Sweeping blacktop, blind hill brows, little single lane bridges galore where that flat 6 resonates so very well back.

Nonetheless, I missed a hill road up to the CB inn, but in doing so drove oop to B6270 from Reeth to Gunnerside. This is one of the top 3 roads to discover in your classic porsche. I didnt have a passenger and i noticed these roads were made for a zinghy, torquey engine pulling from 4000 to 62oo in 3rd. Do be carefull about your suspension: you will hit the front spoiler when jumping and landing after all fours are off.

Nonetheless, I realised my mistake, found that hidden road up the hill, and there it happened. Just passing the highest pub in brittain came a 45 degree left hander. I slammed the brakes and proceeded in a 180 degree slide. In a fraction of a second, I realised at my pace I would go backwards down into the valley, so I managed to do another 180degrees to come to a halt against the roadside.

Rubber, noise of stones and what not hitting the car, smoke, engine not running, rolling downhill. Brakes worked, other vital functions as well. Started car and arrived a bit later at CB inn.

Damage was relatively minor, but it thought me a good lesson.

For the first two minutes I received a lot of empathy from the fellow DDK-ers, after which everyone started to pull my leg.

The DDK northern run had started...
