I took the 964 to a Porsche friends funeral yesterday and reminded myself to use it more now it is no longer self servicing and virtually 100% oil tight. I didn’t have chance to wash 6M of garage dust off it, just pumped the tyres, put the quiet exhaust on and off it went. Ton would have smiled at the state of it - but at least it went!

Condolences.

I also took my 964 out, also utterly covered in dust - I serviced the tumble dryer this morning, part of which involved running it with the secondary filter door open. This blasted the 964 with stoor. Not being happy with that, and having an errand to run meant this:




Heater on full, sunroof open, soundtrack provided by late Zero 7 and early Massive Attack. That's me managed to get it out at least once a month this year, and I've put around 1,500 miles on it since January. More of that next year, hopefully.

Looks like VWSpeedShop. Paul H is owner & that’s his initials. I’ve bought a couple of crank trigger kits from him & they are nicely made parts

Indeed they are. The ITBs are things of beauty and very fairly priced compared to Jenveys and the like.

Getting 'Xmas bored' so decided to take the fabric sunroof cover out of the 911 and prep it all for the nice new one I have.

Going to be a bit tedious putting it al back together, but have a lot of time to do it in.
Some ultra precise gluing required.

The new cuts and glue I did in 1989 fitting this all in the car was all sound and solid, but that was pre-green EVOSTICK.

The new fabric top come with some special high temperature glues. Hope they are as good.

New £12 knock-off temp and fan switches fitted using the drill and smoosh method.

Started to pull the box apart this afternoon. I’ve been struck with plague for the last week so managed a whole hour before calling it for the day!

Lovely grey slurry throughout. Always a good sign

I've witnessed Mike Bainbridge strip a 915 in 15 mins and then giving me a quote to re-build it in 20 seconds.
It took us 10 mins to count about 70 pieces of steel in the oil and other parts.

Got a bit of congestion myself!
Sunroof day tomorrow....

Yes, it’s easy enough to take apart, got stopped by that gold bearing which needs a bit of heat to get it off the shaft and the infamous 41mm input shaft nut that is always a fight!
