Popped over to Williams Crawford to weigh my 914 after the winter makeover. Last year the car weighed in at 919kg…

So, with new seats and mounts, new door cards, no more US-spec side-impact bars (European cars didn’t have them…) and a couple of other details, the weight has come down by no less than 40kg to 879kg. Better still, with the roof off, the weight has come down to 870kg, or 49kg less than before. No wonder the car feels livelier than before.

Colin Chatman would be proud.. Maybe.

Pretty good going I'd say - & well worth the effort.

Did you also work out the cost in £ per Kg reduction ?

Surprised you’ve never heard of him. He was a more talkative relative of that Lotus bloke…

As for the £££ per kg, there are some avenues which I prefer not to explore!

Nice work Keith - worthwhile reduction achieved there.

I added a kilo after a battery failure last weekend - it didn’t impair the event courtesy of a booster pack, but my 1kg battery had done 6 years, was marginal on a 6 pot when new, and could not cope with the compression of the new engine.

I went for a slightly larger, very high output L-ion motorcycle battery - the best avail. Only 2kgs in weight, it has an amazing 770CCA output and spins over the new motor like a charm

Need to bite the bullet and sort my door window once and for all. Keeps coming out the runner.

Glass had never felt very free in frame so new felt guides purchased and a Bicester ticket for Sun providing the stress to complete!

PS - on the weight saving front have got 18kg out of mine since Jan at £89 invested. New trainers! . Miss the mars bars though.

Following the weigh-in, got the car home and braced myself to do one of the jobs I hate most: oil and filter change, remembering to discharge the Accusump while doing so. Several litres of Valvoline VR1 20-50 and one Bosch filter later, retire for a change of clothes and a cold beer...

Now to remember to charge the GoPros and the tyre pump ahead of Sunday's excursion to Wiscombe hillclimb.

Dry and sunny on Sunday - Saturday looks damp at times, but I'm not running that day. JWhillracer is, though...
