Originality is not my personal goal, so something close is fine.

I can get some simple kit-car drain tubing with various ID, so I hope the rim will be an easy OD.

I'm having the lightweight wheel off Andy for DDK charity money, and someone else in the hill climb circus is looking at tooling rollers to roll a 360 OD tube/solid bar rim.
Oddly, the guy is making a new steel rim for his son's Porsche pedal car right now!

I'll cut the spokes to suit the ID of the ring, DIY weld, cover with £3.5 / meter tube and pester Mr Parr.

A puck of some sort will provide the horn push and I will drill the spokes to match my eccentric Momo hub.

Should be good and keep me busy in the garage.

thought you were going the recommended 380 mm as that is what andys wheel is

I'm going to wait and see when it arrives.

400 stock to 380 seems to be the popular size, so to 're-dress' Andy's wheel may be just right.
My momo is 360 so the 380 is the middle ground.

Certainly easier than a new rim!

I'm in no rush just for once in my life, so will literally measure it up when I have it.

If I can find a leather sew-on like I used on my original then I would use one!

My thanks to Andy for my lightweight wheel frame and horn coupling ring, arrived today, DDK Charity paid!

It sure is light compared to the finished wheel, and the rim is really thin to what I thought it would be, but perfect for my project.
The DIY leather (ish) wheel cover to suit 380 od is on it's way for £3.87 no less, got to be nice.

Need to order the tube now to be glued to this steel rim. Not sure what to use but old fashioned araldite appeals, the 24 hour curing stuff so I will have good time to get split tube on the rim and tightly bound to cure.

First job will be to adapt the wheel frame to the eccentric momo hub ring pcd.

Chuffed to be actually starting on this little exercise.

So, how to go about this project?

I am keeping the 380 OD direction, Porsche thought it a good idea for the RS, so I'll go along with it.

Decided to go for a rim dia after covering of about 28mm, my momo is 31mm.

Andy had already drilled the hub for the momo screws which saved me messing about there, so all that was needed was to fasten the horn bayonetted pressing to the wheel hub with 3 x M4 screws and to make a disc that would be held in place with the momo csk head screws.
The disc is needed so the rubber ring of the horn can press onto something to give the horn it's 'spring' when you push it.

I have contacted a restorer of steering wheels who can over-cast the rim itself in resin to about a dia of 28mm, awaiting a price...

Assuming the cost will be high (£100) I need to find an alternative way to pad the rim ready for a cover to be diy stitched on.
The rim is 10mm dia, so I need a substantial rubber tube to cover the rim and give 28mm final dia.

Not easy. Thinking of wrapping the rim initially with hard rubber strip in a helical manner using contact adhesive and then cover that dia with a hose with a matching I/D and to finish up with a smooth outer surface.
I think I've found the combination to do this, but hope the over cast cost will be less than £100!

How about covering the rim with 2 x concentric layers of thick-walled rubber hose ?

First layer 10mm ID/17mm OD then a layer of 18mmID/25mm OD - a quick search on ebay shows that you could get a metre of each delivered for less than £20 :

Yes, looked at both methods.
The insulation sleeve I think will be too soft/spongy from memory of the stuff way back.
The hose I looked at was generally 2mm wall thickness, so:

10mm id to 14mm od, then 14 to 18 etc which I felt was too many layers, but that was kit car solutions drain tube tubing, never got to nitrile.

2 layers of hose would be good and about the minimum you could get away with.
Just ordered the tube Andy posted, however:

What sticks nitrile though? What I can't have is the glue line being flexible, and it needs to stay 'wet' for a reasonable time to allow positioning and strapping to pull the faces tightly, cure overnight.

I'm thinking of Araldite even, the 24 hour mix though the 5 min mix would give me enough time.

I wouldn't use conventional (epoxy) Araldite - you need a high strength/flexible (eg polyurethane) adhesive ...

Google say the same.
Permabond make a glue for nitrile, but it is superglue so instant adherence.
I think it will be a wrestle to get the hose tightly into place, so need something with a good time before setting.
