the one im looking at is the same colour =) i really like signal orange on a 914, but i like a load of other colours too

Is there enough money there to do it without losing one's shirt?

Don't forget that value and asking price are different things. This heated market is partially based on the lack of knowledge of actual selling prices. Auction sales and eBay completed listings are the only semi reliable (!) figures. Even these don't always become genuine sales. If you are unsure of the value, ensure you buy a good example of something you like, want, and intend to keep. That way, hopefully the worst mistake you make will have been buying it a bit early. Wise advice.

Also, many cars which don't appear to have sold at auction get sold after the event - often at significantly below the advertised reserve price.

good advice, duly noted, i'm also looking at it that way, it would be a long term keeper, and as you say, hopefully the worst mistake would be buying to early, everything always seems expensive at the time and cheap in hindsight! still values can go up or down, and the way i look at it, its a car i like and want to drive, and the rest is a bonus.

p.s im still chasing it; still waitng on more photos/details, and what ever happens i'll be sure to see it in the flesh before closing a deal. I'll post some photos when ive got a few more.

I saw this this morning

1972 914 Turbo - WTF!? I quizzed the seller, he is adamant that in 1972 the made 20 914 turbos for the US only all in black. He said he was told that when he bought it from a very well known dealer. Im like really? Ive heard of a 916, i think they made 12 of those - but turbo no. Anyway ive said prove it (i.e red book, letter from porsche, other external resourse) and i'll but it all full asking price this morning! I'm 99.9% this is just a 914 conversion, still that 0.1% has got me asking.

unbelievable, just a blatent lie isn't it, or were all missing the bargain of the century! i'll post some pics of the 914 im looking at later, my inbox is full...half excited, half dreading to look (some rot).

If it's a 914 that goes as good as it looks, then mine is still for sale. I've not been in a 914/6 that comes close to it

Edit - I just saw that 914 Turbo advert that is priceless. Please someone near Ilkley go see this car I would love to hear how that conversation goes.
