Rally 914

Post by team914 »

My brother is building a 914 to rally in Southern Ireland on Historic and closed tarmac events. The car will be based on the rally 914/6 GT spec with a 160 hp 2 litre engine, and all the usual mods,ie front oil cooler, etc. Would anyone know the exact layout of the safety cage as used by the factory/supplied to customers who were converting their own cars with the factory "kit"? Did the factory cage tie into the front and rear suspension? I dont have any clear photos etc in my collection of literature that shows all above.
Any info greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The original cage is not a very safe one in my opinion, which is why I decided to install a modern historic spec one. The guy that I got mine from (he also installed it) is a top guy I would thoroughly recommend him. He does alot of body prep and cages for Irish rally cars (mainly doing the tarmac championships). His work is top notch and his prices very reasonable, let me know if you want his details and I'll PM them to you.

Good luck with the prject and keep us informed of progress.

Cheers

I'd go along with Moggy on this.

The old bar was not up to modern safety standards.

I would be very keen to know more about the project BTW, and could possibly help with engine and trans in particlular.

There is quite a lot to do to make them live..

Kind regards
David
