Oil Pipes
Having just spread the contents of the engine all over my garage and driveway, I am amazed just how much oil is inside the engine!
The cause of this problem was the oil pipe from the engine to the back of the oil filter falling off. There is an elbow fixed into the back of the filter which has a tread on but my pipe had just been pushed over and attached with a jubilee clip. Looking at the PET diagram it looks like it should be one pipe with no joint, What is correct?
At least I don't need to waxoil the rear wheel arch now!
Regards
Neil

Hi Neil,
OK - I had this exact problem about a few weeks before Christmas. On my car, the elbow part you describe had been cross-threaded onto the filter housing and was held on with a combination of oily cack and dirt. I did an engine flush, which released the join, and ended-up with the same fright as you. Fresh Mobil One everywhere.
The elbow uncscrews from the pipe with a fine thread. Porsche don't sell the elbow any more, just the whole pipe for, err, like £250. I found a parts place in the US called EASY, which had the part and quoted me $30 or so
This is the cheapest I found one, although I ended-up getting the part from Alan on here, as he (luckily) happened to have one kicking around.
Hope this helps. I spent a lot of time on this as it drove me nuts, so anymore questions just ask

Jamie,
Thanks for the response. Now I know that the pipe is meant to have threaded ends, I need to get a new pipe. Did this EASY place sell the pipe or just the elbows? Do you have a web address for it? I haven’t checked the threads on the elbow or the other end yet, let’s hope they are OK.
Regards
Neil

Ahh... OK. I heard somewhere that jubilee-clipping replacement pipe onto the elbow is supposed to be just fine (maybe from Alan when we spoke on the phone) - has your pipe split, or has the jubilee clip broken?
I was in Type 911 (SE London) the other day buying some heat-exchanger studs and noticed they had a bundle of oil pipes. Maybe worth giving them a call.

Hi,
It is the pipe from the engine to oil filter. The jubilee clip appears will not tighten up again so I assume this might have been the cause.
The thread is very fine so there is not much for the pipe to grip onto, has anyone has any success with jubilee clips working?
Does anyone know what oil pressure this pipe has to withstand?
How much would you want for the pipe (Don't forget it's a 72 so the pipe is different)?
Regards

Hi,
The two pipes from the 72 oil console are
911 207 315 01 console to oil tank
911 107 720 01 console to engine
I am not sure if these can still be bought new or if they even come with the 90 degree sections. The 90 sections are not available on there own but they are virtually the same as the ones used on the pre 72 s-pipe (oil cooler to oil tank). This is what I sent Jamie and they work fine.

We are talking about the threaded fitting on the oil tank, which has a short flexi section, then continues in a solid section round the bellhousing to theleft hand side of the engine ? if so, I tried a standard metric fitting and although it screwed on part way( about half a turn), would not go any further. I got a nut and fitting to fit exactly from a company called Pirtek (a national network of hydraulic hose specialists) who told me it was French metric fine, apparently a different thread pitch ??

Stu,
I think we are not quite talking about the same pipe. On my 72 the pipe goes from the pipe you describe on the engine up to the back of the oil filter console in the rear wheel arch. The flexible bit is about 18 inches from memory but hopefully the fitting are the same.
I have been talking to Pirtec but their local expert is on holiday this week. Does your pipe have a Pirtec label on it? If so could you copy the details for me, I believe this identifies the fittings.
Thanks
Neil

oil Pipe
Hi
I had some oil pipes made up, the thread is a standard metric thread I will have a hunt around and find out what it is, also i will find the invoice for the pipe and let you know what the company was called. You have to be carefull when getting oil pipes made, up most hydraulic hose has too low temp spec for our applications, if used will fail over time.
Kind regards

Oil Pipe
Hi
Just had a look the fitting on the oil tank to the filter is 26mm 1.5mm pitch the one on the oil tank to the engine oil cooler is 30mm 1.5mm pitch, note this is thread size not nut/spanner size. The supplier info is
Think Automotive Ltd
