912 (but could be 911!) rear brake binding - advice please!

Hiya one and all!

Happy New Year! I hope it was as messy as mine!

I not driven my 912 for 3 weeks now, and as I am lazy I didn't put her in
the garage in that time...

Well I am paying for it now! The rear offside disc is locked on when trying
to move her, and I really need advice on how to free it in the easiest
possible way...

ALL suggestions welcome! I reckon the caliper is locked on cos of the
handbrake, and will try and prove/disprove that tomorrow when I whip it
off armed with WD-40 and some leverage!
but any other experiences/stories/opinions welcome!

When you park up NEVER apply the handbrake always leave in gear and put a block under one of the wheels, I even never put the handbrake on a modern car when I park at the airport for a couple of days. You may find that a good Italian tune-up may do the trick and free everything up but if not brakes are the most simplest of mechanical items and are easy to strip, clean and re-assembly.

if its the same as an early 911, the handbrake is seperate to the calliper. The handbrake is located within the rear disc hub.

If the handbrake has seized on you may find you have to remover the rear disc, although if the shoes have rusted to the inside of the disc you might find this difficult

thrash the f*** out of your car

It does work wonders. My 2.4S can start popping & banging a bit if its had a gentle run, BUT give it a good 80 mile thrash and it purrs like a kitten

Thanks - now I know what it is, I can say I've been a regular practioner since I got my licence

This is particularly true of a 1982 Golf convertible I had. Rotten when cold, but half an hour up the dual carriageway it was like a different car.....student days.......

Has anyone experienced the rear shoes spinning freely forwards but locking up when moving backwards...?

Apparently a 912 trait.

I never leave the handbrake on.. block the wheels it has a wheel clamp anyway when I store it..
