Did you do the bodywork?
No I did not, I did most of the pre welding work, but left that to really good guy Alan Wilsher who did have a very good reputation restoring Classic Italian Cars such as 250 SWD, 365 ect. But early this year he closed his business.

What is your plan with the crank fired Ignition ?
I'm switching to a Ford Edis System, with Megasquirt ECU. Check out the thread by Gary71, He has his EDIS system up and running. Both cars will be EFI using motorbike throttle bodies :)

Throttle bodies

Post by 9Torsion »

Started looking at individual throttle bodies a few years ago, I was able to design a couple of different versions using AUTOCAD. I designed adapters which allows Suzuki single throttle bodies to be fitted to Weber-Wenith manifolds. This also included an adapter plate to fit trumpets to the tops and finished of with ITG filters. It started to get very exspensive as I wanted to do the job properly but don't have the funds. The crankfired ignition would probably come from Clewett Engineering in the US. Then may be PMO Cabs.

I'd be interested to see these if possible. I plan to use suzuki GSXR600 TB'S Anyone elses ideas can only help (But I'd understand if you want to keep it under your hat too). Gary71 has used Triumph TB's onto the Zenith mainfold via an adaptor plate....
The Clewett Ignition looks like the one used by Alan.uk along with PMO's. I love the uncluttered look he has achieved in the engine bay.

Nice effort - but plonking the car on axle stands at its extremes then taking the inner sills off is asking for trouble -
did you brace the shell?

Yes the shell was braced in many area's before the sills were removed. We placed several 30x60x2mm mild steel box sections along the chassis, mig stitched in place. One one side at a time was done, keeping the other side fully assembled. I was also very lucky that the shell in many area's was in very good condition.

Sometimes a project takes a little longer that anticipated, life seems to throw curved balls that can stop a cars restoration.

Well it's has been sometime, the old girl has languished in my mothers garage for to many years. I had some quality issues with work that had been carried out and needed these addressed before the Carrera 3.0 rolled onto the road. I had tried to get the car finished but living in Lewes and storing the car 250 miles away does no make a happy project. I came to the conclusion just over a year ago I needed help! (to get the car on the road). After many conversations over the years it was decided that Alan @ Canford Classics was the best person for the job.

After discussing the project for sometime with Alan we agreed a start date. The car was picked up on the 8th March by his very reliable driver. The project had really grown legs and previous works that included welding, paint prep, painting and assembly by the last amateur are very evident. :( Whilst starting the disassembly it was clearly evident that the previous works had been done to a very poor standard.

Alan has now started the removal of all panels, welding, paint by the previous company. To say I'm a little miffed by the quality of the original respray is a big understatement. I won't use this forum as a sounding board but only give the following advise "use a recognised Porsche specialist only" when working on classic Porsche.

The restoration will include a full suspension/brake rebuild, welding, body alignment, repaint and assembily (this list could grow) The car will now be stripped! properly welded, and assembled. The car now sits @ Canford Classics weld shop and I'm awaiting the next visit to view the progress (images to follow).
