James: do you think that you could get the various theaded parts machined with suitable bosses?

I'm wondering whether it'd be possible to make a wooden buck and make some aluminium ones: I've got access to the sheet metal gear plus gas/TIG plants for the welding.

Anyone got a spare (scrap) tank not fitted to a car? Seems this problem is only going to get worse. Any technical reason why aluminium wouldn't work? Also what is the retail on a new (Porsche) tank?

Let's make clear here and now that I am first in the queue for a fabricated tank.
In the meantime, maybe the source of my rusty tank can contemplate the notions of 'fair play'

A new tank is £633. Maybe SS might be a better idea? 911s had SS oil tanks from 74(?) onwards

Hi Barry,

I have a 72 tank that could be used to help re-make new ones. In fact it could be repaired and used if some one really needed one. I also think SS would be a better option if you were making new 72 tanks.

No, I thought I'd sourced one in the US. But it was ''About to ship" for several weeks, but then I found out it was not exactly as rust free as the guy had claimed.
No flaming from me intended

Re getting tanks made, I know that Steve Monk's father makes fuel tanks, so maybe he would be well equipped to make a batch...
Anyone know him personally?

Just to continue this spectacular hyjack (

), the only reason for suggesting aluminium was a) I thought I saw someone on DDK mention some American '72 tanks in ally and b) It's much, much easier to shape than S.S.: certainly very do-able with a wood former.

S.S. Would either have to be fabricated from more pieces, or stamped (I would have thought, anyway). I'm sure it would be the 'Rolls Royce' solution though

. I suppose I ought to visit the barn and see whether there's a large oily puddle under my '72 out of interest

if there's a production line being set up, I'd be game for a SS one too...got a teeny hole in mine

I was under the impression tho that there were many different types/sizes/shapes produced?
