'72 911 Ignition Barrel - anyone got any photos / diagrams?

I had my new alarm fitted on Tuesday. When I collected the car, the fitters told me that the ignition barrel was damaged - it had supposedly been pulled-apart by the fitter of the previous alarm (badly done, and already removed from the car when I bought it) and is damaged.

They were saying something about some metal pins, being hammered into something and the casing being cracked. Does anyone have an exploded diagram or some photos of a disassembled barrel? I would prefer to try to make sense of what they were saying before pulling it out of the car, as I will undoubtedly destroy it completely.

It is currently held together with a wedge of plastic and some gaffer tape...

I have some pictures, took them when I broke the ignition key off !
Is it the electrical part of the ignition barrel or the mechanical part that is broken ? Also my car is in many pieces at the moment so can take more pictures if necessary.
Do the electrical connections go onto blade connectors on the back of the switch. I know that the switch design did change on the later cars, but not sure when. Mine is a '69 so potentially earlier
I don't want to put Photos of the ignition switch on an open forum.... you never know who's watching

There are two parts to the ignition switch the barrel/steering and the electrical connection. It sounds like you are referring to the electrical connector. This has a set of pins in it, these wear and cause ignition problems.

If this is the part then it is easy to swap it out when you have a new one.
Part no of the electrical bit is 911 613 017 01. I think they cost around £60.

Gawd... I dunno. Looks like there is a black cover on the back of the barrel that is currently being held on by tape. That's all I can see at the moment.

Maybe I should bite the bullet and pull the whole caboodle apart! Good to know it should only be £60 to fix, though!
