Broken piston, what are my options?

Post by wilkie »

A top end investigation of my 68 912 engine has thrown up a broken piston. All cylinders are in good shape and my mechanic is trying to source a good used replacement.

If we can't I understand that i will need a new set of pistons and cylinders.
What are my options?

I have seen sets ranging from £250-£1000 are there any names I should look for or avoid?

Should i go for standard or big bore?

I would be happy for your advise.

Hello there.

I'd first want to know why it broke.

The same will surely ahhpen to the replacement otherwise.

Was it overheated? Detonation?
Bent rod?

Etc..

Kind regards
David
