Hi James,

always the way... looked for one for ages and two come along at once.

I have bought the Patrick Motorport Oil tank - looks well made.

What are you doing for oil lines, making your own, or have you got some stock lines........

Also, have you looked at the wiring alterations needed yet? That is the bit that I have the least knowledge .....

kind regards
Rob

I'm planning to use a hydraulic hose shop I've used before. As for the wiring doesn't look too taxing -should connect up nicely to the stock fuse panel.
I reckon on the engine we'll need a + for the coil, connect the alt to the battery via the starter and your senders to their relevant gauges.
The CDI I have yet to work out and the signal for the tacho comes from here (I think) :drunken:

Sounds simple enough...

When do you reckon you will get the engine in your car?

Hello James,

The coil get's power from the CDI, the wiring is pretty simple at the box, 3-Pins (A,B,C)

A: Goes to terminal 15 on the coil
B: You'll need a switched 12v supply
C: Trigger wire to distributor points
(plus D) Earth tab, you can run a small earth strap to the chassis

For the coil:

15 or +, one wire to Termial A on the cdi (as above)
1 or -, two wires, one short earth to the fan housing and then the tacho feed.

here's a nice diagram, pictures can be more easier to look at :)

If you can pickup a 911 3-pin plug it would make the install a bit cleaner

I'm pretty sure this is all you need to know, hope it helps :)

Thanks Darren, thats Tres helpful + just what I'm looking for. I have a 3pin Permatune box + the 3pin plug somewhere.
Does the 911 Tach come off the coil too?

I've seen the Tach signal run from either the points or the coil.
In some cases, the connection of the Tach to the points has caused the CDI to missfire at high rpm's. You are switching the Tacho to a 6 pot one aren't you ?
Cheers

Top info chaps - many thanks.

Anyone doing a 914-6 conversion (or thinking about it) fancy meeting up in the new year?

could be worth meeting for a brainstorming session (and a pint).

Otherwise, I thought that we get all the bits together shortly, we could help each other on our conversions...Nothing like some extra help!

just a thought.

kind regards
