A 'matching numbers' 2.4S with a CIS engine ????!!!....

Who inspected it ?

Depends on your interpretation of expensive.

Looks tidy, not sure its the sort of colour that would that popular if wanted to sell.

Also seems to lack sunroof & recaros which help with the value.

Hold on before you send funds!

Yes it does look nice in those pics, but that is not a fully correct 2.4S motor. As Andy says a S did not come with CIS. Do you have any vin and engine numbers?

I think the bigger question here is:

Is it an S, and is the motor (bar induction) an S? If it is and the case is matching numbers, and the price is right, then it still could be a good car to buy.

it was inspecetd by a guy I have purchased a 912 off in the past, which turned up great

I was also concerned about the colour but (and I hate to admit this and look a knob) ny knowledge isnt great on these cars and dont know if they came with CIS or MFI etc in fact I dont know what to look for in the pics - but I like to learn!

is it possible it could have been changed at rebuild??

I appreciate that it would be better with recaros and other options

any ideas on a market value of a car like this assuming the engine was correct - I havbe seen past posts valuing lhd between £30-35k which seems a bit steep

Hi,

If it helps I can send my phone number to chat.

The biggest question is, is it an S? Not to say it has never happened but I have never seen a S motor converted to CIS, and thus I suspect it is the incorrect motor (based on the assumption the chassis is an S). Also don’t worry about the colour I think it's great and if it is original (which it looks) then even better - I am about to paint a 2.4 E Royal Purple, you don't get more 'out there' than that - but it is original.

HTH

CIS would not be compatible with S cams or pistons.

If the engine has been replaced by a CIS version I would wonder what else has been altered.

If the car has been 'professionally' inspected & they didn't notice/inform you that the engine was non-original then I'd have liittle/no faith in the inspection results.

the car is being sold by one of the most respected porsche specialists on the north west coast of america and the guy who sourced it said that the mfi has been removed and replaced with cis??

is this impossible in your opinion

I would be dissapointed in this guy if this was the case and it was a different engine because I have known hime for a while and trust what he says - unfortunately my mechanical knowledge of these cars is not great

Hi,

Why would one change from MFI to CIS. If the MFI is playing up 99% of people would use Carbs as atleast they suit a lot better than CIS ever will. It is very hard to diagnose without seeing/driving the car, but what has been done to cams, pistons and so on... This is not to say the people you mention are wrong, its more an assumption based on the info you have given.

CIS is very sensitive to pulses in the intake system & therefore utilises very mild cam timing - something with little or no overlap.

'S' cams (which have high lift & duration) will interfere with the CIS metering system.

what are the numbers ( chassis / engine ) ?

On the subject of the seats, it looks like the ones fitted are correct 1973 'standard seats' with the '73 hinges . Quite a few S's came with standard seats ( although you would need the build info from Porsche to confirm this is the case with this car)

Were the late 73's not 2.4 CIS just before the introduction of the 2.7 in 74?
