Stoddards

Has anyone oredered anything from stoddards in the states? I was going to place an order with them the other day but they refused to quote me for shipping untill I provided a method of payment. They claim they dont know untill its all packaged up and weighed. Seems a bit odd to me though surley it wouldnt be that hard to give an estimate.

Are they normally resonable on shipping?

I remember enquiring before and getting the same reply. They did however give me an estimate.

I bought a factory manual, but had it shipped to a U.S address and hand carried the stuff home with me.

They were a good company.

I understand the Porsche family or the factory owns them.

I've ordered quite a few bits from them, mainly by phoning with the part numbers from the catalogue as opposed to using the website. Very efficient and much speedier despatch than Pelican. The postage cost was par for the course.

Also, their parts catalogue is a must-have ref manual for anyone I'd say.

I bought a fuel cap from them recently, also couldn't give me a postage cost, but I dropped them an email and they also gave me an estimate.
Postage was very cheap in the end, it arrived really quickly, the part was spot on, and they were really helpful.

I also used Stoddards for many of my 356 parts when restoring mine.
A bit naughty but if you say you run a small restoration company
say XYZ Restorations they will likely give you a 10% discount.
I had no problems with shipping and was very pleased with all
the bits I needed.
The only problems were with UK customs and Royal Mail and their
extortionate duties and 'release' charges. But that's not Stoddard's
problem.
