Bursch Exhaust

Post by defianty »

Guys, I'm getting a little bored of scaring young children, pets and waking the dead with the Monza exhaust I've currently got on the 914. It was fun for a whiile though

I've heard positive things about the Bursch system. Got a couple of questions though.

1. My rear valance hasn't got a cut out for an exhaust tip. Will it need it?
2. Anyone got any pics of a Bursch fitted?
3. Roger Bray have them listed at £293.75 (inc. VAT). Which I don't think sounds to bad, but I can't find another UK stockist to compare prices. Any ideas?

Intrested to hear if there's any other options out there also.

Cheers :)

Hello Stephen, try Mittelmotor I'm sure they come in at less shipped than the UK suppliers. I'm going to be ordering one for mine in the next few weeks, once I've started on the engine.

I'm pretty sure you need the cutout as well on the rear valance for it to fit.

As for other Bursch users I know lots of people rate them, Kevster's got one and he's really pleased with it.

Cheers Darren, Mittelmotor look cheaper so I think it's the wise option.

Just a bit concerned about the rear valance now. Not that keen hacking up a perfectly good one just to fit the exhaust. It also makes me wonder what the valance is, a stock exhaust would need a cut-out too. I'll have a look in the morning and see if it's been modified. I may source a valance too and sell the one I have with the exhaust. There must be someone out there who doesn't like their neighbours

Thanks again.

P.S. Have you found a pair of heads for the fourteen yet?

I wouldnt worry too much about the noise fella, when you start setting off car alarms, as I did when my tailpipe fell off  then you gotta take some action  .

I might be wrong but i think the stock steel rear valances can be a bit pricey, if you can't find one and need a template of where to put the cutout you're welcome to use mine, as you know I'm often down your kneck of the woods and it's not like I'll be needing it for a while :( .

I'm in communication with Stateside re my heads, a few more deals and I could I'll potentialy be looking at some of their Sports Heads, 96mm b&p's and a hotter cam, which will hopefully make for a pretty nice 2056 motor.

Stephen

The bursch's are quite noisey as well!!!!

Mittel do fibreglass rear valances and can problably source 2nd hand stell ones.

here's a photo from mine:

it fits the standard valance

in my humble opinion it sounds a little better than the standard exhaust, but it's far from noisey

I set off two alarms today!! This is what is prompting the change.

Thanks for the offer of the template I may take you up on that.

Good luck with the rebuild, I'm sure it will make a nice motor!!

Cheers Ad, Must admit I've not heard one but surely it can't be as bad as the Monza. I hoping someone may have one at Gaydon, would be nice to have a listen.

Thanks Gusti, that's exactly what I was after. At the moment it certainly won't fit my valance. Cheers

How come that fits into the exhaust cut-out like a glove yet my Bursch on my '73 fits like this?

Hi Stephen,

Go with Mittelmotor, much better than Bray. I've had a Bursch on my 1.7 for about 8 or more years now, very pleased and not too noisy, certainly not as 'bad' as a monza. People have expressed doubts about the quality but as I said I've had no problems. Go for it!!

Hi Moggy,

you have a 1.7L exhaust, and the valence off a 2.0L!

I have a Bursch exhaust on my car, and it is fine in that there are no holes in it , but it was disconcerting when the paint came off it after a week, and the tail pipe chrome is a bit naff.

Car sounds cool though!

Thanks guys, Bursch it is then. Took a look at the valance at the weekend and it's not steel so I'm not too concerned about cutting a cut out.

I'll order this up in the next few weeks. Haven't got any spare time now for a while as this weekend was taken up by installing a new stereo. Should have been a simple task, but I had to re-wire a lot due to some not-to-clever wiring by a previous owner
