Started with just reverse but now it's spread to first. Standing still neither will go in without a serious crunching sound that makes me wince. If I'm rolling first goes in no trouble.
Check also your, linkage bushings and gearbox mounts, if still no joy brace yourself for a rebuild of first and reverse due to a worn slder and/or synchrohub as I've just completed (before discovering I am also in for an engine rebuild ), see pics in the following thread:
As above plus reverse will always crunch unless you are stationary and have had the (properly clearing) clutch down for a second or two so the box stops. It just smacks two gears into each other, now such luxuries as synchros on there.
Definitely a dragging clutch. I'm not familar with the release mechanism on the 901 box, but on most boxes a couple of turns on the nut on the end of the cable and you'll be sorted Not a big (or expensive) job.
