MPG Query and now running better

I seem to have gotten over my initial battery issue (for now!), and will get Tuthills to replace when I visit next week to have the outstanding odd jobs done to the car (waxoyl, carpet, wheel centre etc.).

When using it yesterday, I was running as follows :-

80mph
3,800 rpm
180 temp
60-65 psi oil

Do the above look correct figures ?

There is a slight misfire under heavy load, so will get Tuthills to check through plugs, leads, cap, webers etc.

I also averaged 16.8mpg on the webers for first 175 miles - what should I be getting for a 'sensible' first run - i.e. not using full throttle all the time ?

All the numbers sound good

16.8mpg is a bit high though...

On a decent run, not thrashing it, when properly warmed up I can get 25+ Give it a bit of right foot and this can drop below 20 but I do have to try pretty hard. However with a proper cold start and running to and from work barely getting it warmed up it does about 10

I got 25mpg from my 3.2 so 16mpg looks poor.

will run for a couple more fills and see what I get.

I used Tesco 95 - is this OK?

Don't expect the sort of MPG figures from an older engine to be anything like as good as a newer 3.2. POrsche have always managed to make their engines more efficient (if sometimes less fun) using ever more sophisticated electronic management systems.

I used to 'enjoy' 17mpg from my 2.4S on a good run, but that would go down to 7mpg on a track!

Afraid you have to pay for the fun factor.

with my 2.4S, on the run to LeMans I managed about 20mpg ... & as you might have seen from another of my threads that might be whilst still running on the rich side. 16mpg is a bit poor

I'm with hot66 - 20mpg average; 16-17 in anger (but even less on track)

Think of it as Smiles per gallon

It will be interesting to see how the fuel consumption figures change on Gary's car with ignition and fuel under ECU control.

Ian, I got 19.3 mpg on a run to Sicily and back in the summer. Enthusiastic driving in a 2.4E on MFI.

Treating it like a regulation rally, and accurately logging everything, it was a great test for the car for oil consumption, running temps etc. etc.
