Hi there folks.

My names Dan , i'm a young 39 and i live in the Solihull area. Work for Autoglass as a technical trainer to the branches. Recently been in Oz for 6 years. Having been into my dubs for many , many moons i've decided a change was needed. I'm the owner of a lovely 75 914. The car has been really well looked after and sorted in everyway. Some of you may know it already i'm sure. Car has fully set up suspension , 2.1 motor and all the right things. Have to say what a car!! After seeeing more and more 914 race inspired stuff i'm hooked!! (Bye Bye bank balance!). After being given this forum address etc i plan to make the most of it and ask all the dumb questions that a newbie does. Already looking for stuff ion classifieds.

Anyhow here's my ride. Requires some paint to bonnet and scuttle panel which i'll do come winter when i fit a new screen to it. Apart from that i'm going to detail it over the following w'ends and get used to the dogleg box

Cage was a possible idea but we'll see what happens. Really wanted some extra protection though may be more hassle than i thought. Still looking into things to be honest.
Buzzed by a yellow one on Stratford road , yup that was me , live close to where you saw me. Was a shock to see a 914 in the mirror. Though wasn't in my mirror for that long! Great looking car , love the yellow.

What a cracker! Hope when I get mine that it's half as good then I will be a happy man! I notice you work for Autoglass and
I was wondering if you could help me with a none Porsche related problem.
I have a Volvo Amazon estate with an ill fitting rear window seal. It's allowing water into the car. The seal is new and the surrounding metal is perfect. I have bought a tube of screen sealer and tried to fill the gap and stop the leak (we are only talking a fraction of a millimeter) but it seems to dry out after a month and allow water in again. Do you know of a product that will seal between the metal and rubber and stay flexible.?

Yea i'd be up for a meet , bit of a drive out etc. I'll keep my eyes on the events section for sure.

With regard to the volvo. The best thing to do is remove the window. From there you can clean down the aperture and clean the seal.

When i seal classics i don't use a "sealer" as such. Silicone will stick to the paint and can be a nightmare , arbomast or similar sealers dry out. After a few years rubbers look lumpy and the stuff leaks out from the rubber. looks awful.

The best thing i have used and on everyone of my own cars is grease. Castrol do a red rubber grease which is perfect. A good smear of that on the rubber is all you need. Firstly it is a wet seal and will not dry out. It will not make the rubber lumpy or hard and will actually help purlong the life of the rubber slightly. It will ease fitment aswell. You will also find it very easy to use and clean up. If it was mine thats what i'd do.
