help - 914 new rear caliper setup??

I just went to fit my new rear caliper which only has one bleed nipple at the top but otherwise looks identical.

Fitted ok then bled the caliper using my ezbleed. went to set the venting on inner and outer. Outer works fine with adjuster but the inner adjuster doesnt exist!!

I then took it all off and undid the inner adjuster cover to reveal a partially threaded recess (only the top 1cm) but with no adjusting allen headed bolt inside. Could it be that there isnt one on this caliper and I should only be setting the venting on the outer one? If this is the case the inner one must be self adjusting but when its all together and bled the inner pad is rattling around so there is no way the brakes will work or the handbrake. I tried stamping on the pedal several times to try and bed things in but no joy.

on a 14 the handbrake lever operates on the inner piston only by the look of it.

This has now buggered up my trip down to holton classic tomorrow

Hi Kev: I did return your call yesterday, but you had gone out (or at least couldn't get to the phone

).

Anyway, if you look down the rear adjusting hole, right at the bottom, can you see what looks like the side of some splines? Mine did not seem to have any adjuster, and thanks to some fellow 14'ers, it became apparent that the allen headed part had fallen out. I assume that it has splines / gear teeth around it's periphery which then engage with the actual adjusting mechanism.

Anyway, I was able to adjust mine by getting a flat screwdriver of the right width down the hole, and sort of flicking the teeth / splines around.

Hope this sort-of makes sense. Of course the problem with this is that you have to adjust the caliper as best you can in your hand so to speak, and then reattach it to the car. Luckily I seem to remember that the flexi-brake line is long enough to enable you to keep trying the adjustment without disconnecting the hydraulics.

yes youre right - my new caliper had the splined adjuster missing! I robbed the old one and got it all working last night so went to holton after all!

Gave the car a good blast down the a31/m27/a27 - that blew the cobwebs out

he he, our sofas not that big! - i did a 2 hour drive, stayed at the how for 1 1/2 hours then drove home 2 hours - dedication or madness - you decide
