Door lock problem

Ever since the Northern run I've been unable to lock my nearside door.

External trigger release works OK.
Key turns in barrel, suggesting the tumblers are OK
Lock button on door capping is 'down' so the door should be locked. It ain't.
Door strap (RS door cards) does not open the door.

The mechanism appears to be 'stuck' mechanically.

Can't get hands, eyes, torch, small pry bar into the restricted space all at the same time.

Only 'clue' I had was a small spring laying in the bottom of the door. May not belong to the door lock gubbins though - I can't see where it might go anyway.

Appears that the only way to sort it would be to remove the whole mech and fettle it on the bench - but, will I need to remove all of the window gear to get enough room to extract the locking unit? Is this so?

Anyone 'been there, done that'?

Better still - tell me where to hit it to make it function again!

It's been a while since I stripped my locks down, but I seem to remember you can get it out without removing the window mechanism, bit of a struggle, but can be done! Good luck!

Spent all afternoon trying to sort this damned lock...... no result!

The pictures that Alan posted helped a lot - thanks.

The trigger mech works fine - I even stripped it out and cleaned it. The key tries to turn but there's summat stopping the levers in the case assembly from turning (by 'case' I mean the chinese puzzle of levers, springs and assorted gubbins that Alan has so precisely photographed). With the door handle off the car the key/barrel turns efficiently.

Gary71 - I deffo can't get the lock 'case' out of the door. The 'case' just won't go far enough into the door because of the glass runners. This might be because the doors are from a 3.2 and have a longitudinal strengthening piece in line (almost) with the lock case, so no room to shuffle the case in the horizontal plane

So the whole thing is still jammed - can't operate the key, can't pull up the door locking button, can't open the door using the interior handle release and, worst of all, can't see properly, as the suspect area is hidden behind the glass guide/runner. But can open the door from the outside.

Don't really want to strip out the glass and associated mechanism but it looks like I'll have to!
On a positive note this might be the time to go for manually operated windows and save a bit more weight?
I'd be happy to leave 'as-is' though, it there's a simple cure.

Any more advice?
