Spring Plate Bush Stop

Anyone know if the stop inside the rear torsion bar tube which the spring plate bush rests against is available as a new part or shall I fire up the lathe?

My nearside one was corroded away but strangely despite lots of digging the torsion bar tube and surroundings are pertfect!!

( yes I did mean PERTFECT )

I'd get that lathe fired up: at least then you can make it a bit thicker, and chamfer out the outer edge ready for a nice neat welded fillet: strong and pretty

. Also should last a bit longer this time round

Gary, about 1 1/2 - 2 inches into the end of the torsion tube is a pressed steel 'washer' welded in. It forms the stop for the spring plate bush to press up against, and probably is only made from 18/20 gauge.

I assume the idea is that as the torsion bar covers are tightened, the inner spring plate bush runs up against this stop, leaving the bush no option other to expand outwards, hard against the torsion tube, therefore giving a more solid location than a simple sliding fit.

In my limited experience this stop often is rusted, sometimes to the degree of having virtually dissappeared.

Thanks Barry, turned up a replacement this morning. The welding will be fiddly but the one thing I can afford is time!!

( thinks I might do both sides just because I can!!!)
