Oil change

hi folks

very basic question! - I'm planning an oil change for my 911 this week, I haven't done this before so not sure I have the right bits and pieces - can someone let me know what size socket I will need to open the sump and tank drain plugs please?

Also I don't have a torques wrench so I'm going to buy one - any advice before I do?

Hi,

If you are buying new tools, it will easier just to buy a standard range of allen keys and sockets, that will cover most things. Torque wrenches are a different matter, with these you get what you pay for. Maybe do a little research on the web and what uses you have for it. Most things on a Porsche are less than 100 ft.lbs so you can but one to suit that.

I bought snap-on 3/8 inch Techwrench ones (5-100ftlbs), expensive but the best. For the 100+ items, such as cam nuts and flywheel bolts I use a different 1/2 torque wrench.

warning, all the oil in the sump/tank comes out in about 5 secs and makes a massive mess of the floor if you are using one of those oil drain cans with the small hole in the side. They can't cope with the flow. Oh, and it takes about 3/4 of the average kid's sand pit to soak it up.

As tanick says, PLUS it's HOT oil! Wear a protective glove. Hand and forearm covered instantly in hot oil is not pleasant. Ask me how I know!
