Sill Replacement

Ive Just replaced both sills on my car, the right side fitted fine and lined up perfectly where the old sill was and along the bottom of the door. When doing the left side I was having difficulty getting the sill to come out far enough to line up with the 1/4, it was about 2-3 mm short. Then I realised the 1/4 had a thick layer of body solder on it that had been used to match the 1/4 to the old sill. Once I removed the solder the sill was a perfect match to the proper profile of the 1/4. The only problem is now the sill doesnt match the bottom of the door it sits about 2 - 3mm behind the door. Should I just try and re-adjust the door to match or do I have a problem with the sill fitment?

It seems strange that the new sill matches the old 1/4 perfectly but the old one needed lots of solder to make it match its almost as if the original sill was wrong?

Hello, Steve.

This is quite common I'm afraid.

The car has probably been crashed and repaired some time.

The correct procedure is outlined in the factory manual..

First to determine is the correct position and shape of the door opening ..and hence the door fitting.

then the rear quarter fit to the door, last the front wing to the door..

Hi David your probably right, although there is not obvious signs of crash damage on that side to the panel work, I know from looking at the back of the door that it must have been repaired at some point as it is indented so must have been filled on the outside. The door is ear marked for replacement anyway so ill wait for my new door to get it all lined up.
