Engine Rebuild: Parts Cleaning and balancing

I am planning on undertaking my first engine rebuild. I have two T4 2.0 engines and I really want to rebuild one of them to slot into my Bug.

At the planning stages at the moment but I need the following services:

Vapor or blast the heads, engine case and other parts to clean them up prior to rebuild. I really want the factory clean look on the outside and them spotless on the inside.

Also I need to get my crank polished, new valve guides pressing in and rods and bottom end balanced.

Can you guys recommend anyone? I am looking for a good price and decent work.

After I have done both of these 2ltr T4 motors, 1 will be stock and one will be Hot! I may consider delving into my 911 engine too.

You could try stateside tuning for the balancing, most decent engine builders should be able to cope with polishing the journal, valves guides require the correct knowledge, its about the only thing the original engine builder of mine did correctly.

Also try Raceshack

Alam, a friend of mine got his Dart V8 balanced by a chap who does all of the Prodrive (I think) work, plus does a load of well known touring/rallying teams engines.

I seem to remember he wasn't too expensive (similar to my regular engine people's prices), but is ultra high quality. Bit grumpy though: you get told what you are having, or advised to leave

Stateside Tuning are a bit expensive though so I have heard.

I'll try them if Barry's contact falls through though.

Andy Prill recommended Brown Bros. at Clapham Jn to me , for a london based machine shop. Havent used them myself....
