Sounds like a good offer to me. Export 56 have a LHD car at just over 30k and they are always on the pricey side!!!!

Bite their arm off - then have a go at their leg while you're at it!

Seriously, LHD 2.4S's seem to be being advertised for around £35k in Europe (recent editions of the French RS magazine I've seen) and a perfect RHD is in the UK probably worth £45k - £48k (there are very few RHD survivors) - but as with all prices it's actually finding someone who's ready to part with the cash there and then.

£33k is a little low - perhaps you might try and push for £35k - but it depends if you want the cash now or are prepared to market the car at around £38k £39k and end up settling for £34k to £35k when a PPI's been done.

If you're chopping it in at a dealer / independant, be prepared to see it for sale for around £39k to £42k - but bear in mind he will have costs to go on top of his price (including VAT on his margin).

I've owned ten or so 993's and they're lovely - but 2.4S they ain't!! For what it's worth coming from me - DO NOT SELL YOUR 2.4S

If I can add some fat to the fire:

2002 - 993C2 £35,000
2006 - 993C2 £23,000


2002 - 2.4S £14,000
2006 - 2.4S £35,000

Do you see the trend

993 is heavy and underpowered by comparison

Are they rewarding? Yes - but different - and the speed you have to be doing to get the same enjoyment is far too high in comparison to the 2.4S.

Seriously - in order to get the same driving experience as a 2.4S you're going to have to look at a 993RS - the 993 - while a lovely long distance tourer is no 'classic' car like the 2.4S.

Don't meddle with the spec of your 2.4 - aircon at that vintage was not a pretty site

If you're getting smell in the cockpit check the heat exchangers, then get the heater channels checked - then make sure the fresh air vents are properly attached to the front grill - and finally - work out where the petrol smell is coming from - there should NEVER be a smell of petrol - if there is, either the car's running too rich and it's coming back via the heater channels (so check the excahngers and channels) then check the drain nut at the bottom of the fuel tank - the washer perishes and causes a small leak which can give a wiff.

My 2.7RS never, ever smells of smoke, oil, petrol or anything other than the interior carpet / leather / patina.

Does sound as if you could do with getting a few things checked before chopping the old girl

But for sure - this one will only go down!

My *personal* guess is the 2.4S will be over the £40k point by this time next year - maybe into the £50k's - just look at what 2.7RS's are doing (he says rubbing his hands, knowing I'll NEVER sell mine). By comparison I'll put you £5 the 993 will be around £20 - 22k with another 5k miles and year under its belt.

All that said, there could be a price crash - happened before - but cars aren't overvalued in the same way at the moment - as has been discussed at great length on here before
