genuine bosch rear lenses

Post by bazz55 »

Hi there i know that there has been some discussion around repro and original lenses. I have contacted various stockists of these lenses, i need the ones with the chrome surround for a 69 911... basically i have had a varied response...

all have told me they are original bosch, but prices have varied from £39.50 from design911.co.uk, £64 plus vat from Transend, £85 plus vat from Berlyn.

Im confused as they all say they are from bosch, and are the real Mccoy????

i know which ones i want to buy :) as im a cheap skate, but i would like the genuine ones...

please advise me

cheers bazz :drunken:

Hi Bazz,

How's the S?

I have seen lots of those rear lenses and I did compare a pair of new ones (that I recently had advertised for sale on DDK) and they were the same as the originals, or if not a very good repro and you would not know the difference. I have seen differences in the fronts, specifically the amber colour can be quite thin on repros and the curve can be a little off as well.

I have one pair of rears left, posted to your door for £60.

Cheers

Alan

Yes Bazz.

Glad to hear you are still enjoying your S. Also thanks for your kind words on the 3.2, it's great fun. I love driving it, sometimes you spend so much time working, restoring and learning things about these cars that you forget what it’s all about: and that is driving them. Since finishing the 3.2 I have since regained my motivation and hence the 2.2S is going well. More work that expected but it going to be a very special car.

interestingly, type-911 show (black edged):

genuine bosch rear lenses at £72

genuine Porsche rear lenses at £82

repros at £44

http://www.type-911.co.uk/gp_lightlenses.htm

They do the same in silver edged too

Now I am confused :drunken:
