How did you manage to keep the original reg and is it tax exempt classic/ historic vehicle?

The car was classed as a 'Kit Conversion' by the DVLA inspector. Because all the major components came from a 1967 car the plate that they gave me was 'age related'. It is still classed as a 2006 registered therefore not tax exempt.
