Like the Group 4 wheels look the part and will be interested to see the seats retrimmed. Where are you sourcing the basket weave leather?

Some fettling of the exhaust and a session on the local rollers got it running lovely. I've enjoyed driving it immensely all summer. I still love the patina on it, but it was filthy when when I collected it from the barn and all the miles I've done did not help that. I took it over to my local, reliable detailer for an end of season spruce up. I'm convinced he's a magician. Interior refurb is still on the cards this winter.

The interior refurb has been scaled back a bit. I don't want to strip the character out of the car, but the front seats were some horrible 70/80s things that looked like they were out of a Triumph. They stood out like a sore thumb and were sagging with busted piping, so last year I bought a pair of these aluminium seats from a chap who fabs them himself.

Then dropped them off with the chap who trimmed my 911. He sent me these photos today.

I think they're going to transform the interior and look far more period correct. I can't wait to get them fitted.

Also, if a mod wants to move the thread to the replica section I've got no argument. It's gone a bit off track from the original message.

I considered leaving them bare, but my behind is a little more boney and my back a little more creaky these days. I doubt they'd have been kind the further i sprint towards middle age. The leather is a good match and the having the hessian visible through the holes in the back will be a nice touch I reckon.

Hi guys. I’ve not popped on here properly for some time now. I sold my backdate a couple years ago, but having loved the journey and the big drives it did. I felt it was the right time to move on and go for something completely different.

And it was an incredible 18 months with it. That V12 is very emotive. It also taught me that Porsche maintenance ≠ Ferrari maintenance. A huge bucket list box ticked though but I moved it on last summer.

I wasn’t really considering a valuable car as I was working a lot in the Middle East last year and travelling a lot when I wasn’t. A local dealer I’ve bought from before got a lovely, low mileage 991.2 Turbo S in stock and I fell in love with it. So much sharper and vastly more dynamic than the bigger, heavier Italian tourer. As intimidating as a Fiesta if you just want to cruise, but gut punching performance whenever you want it.

I’m still part aircooled, though. The Speedster is ready for a good service before summer comes proper. I fitted the new seats I had made for it and I’m really happy with how they turned out, although I feel I sit an inch or two too high, so I need to come up with another solution for runners. I need to tidy the interior and fit a new wiring harness as it’s functional, but not pretty.

In the coming years I think I’d like to get it to someone respected in the Beetle world for a comprehensive mechanical upgrade and restoration. A street driving 90-100bhp engine, with brakes and suspension upgraded to suit. Just add a bit of dynamism and make it right for a good few years.

Anyway, due to current state of the Middle East, I find myself unemployed, but finally with a bit of time to sort through shelves and cupboards for all the parts gathering cobwebs since I finished my backdate build. I’m also awaiting having a hernia sewn up, so I’ll see how I feel before I dig out the deep 6s, but I’ll be listing bits and bobs as I go. Cheers.

356 stance and wheels look the best I've seen in many a year.
Upgrades for '2026' a good idea, but don't loose that look!

Thanks guys. The Turbo S is the sweet spot for me, with real buttons and gauges, no lane assist or speed bongs, etc. It’s got an exhaust and tune on it, putting out a healthy 690bhp.

I’ve been torn over letting the deep 6s go as Des really loved them. We would argue about it around his dining table over many beers. I’ve come to terms with being right about the wheels although he’ll be cursing from somewhere. I doubt I’ll be fitting winters for when the snow comes so I’ll dig them out, clean them up a bit, check the part numbers and date stamps. I think they could be a matching set.

I love the patina, stance, and the shape of the car. I’ve seen a few others with questionable compound curves here and there, but this seems as faithful as fibreglass can be. I’ve just booked it in for a service and fettle in a couple of weeks.

Any resto and upgrades will have to wait a year or two until I’ve found gainful employment and finally finished renovating my old gaff. I’ll be keeping the wheels as is though. I’m sure modern Cinturatos can deal with a heady 100bhp.
