Jonny and the team at Classic Retrofit have been long terms supporters of DDK so it's great to welcome them back for 2026 as a Premier Supporter.

So to kick off a little bit about them...



Incorporated as a UK limited company in 2015, Classic Retrofit was actually established several years before this, when company founder, Jonny Hart, swapped his daily driver Mercedes 280 SLC for a classic Porsche 911 SC in need of restoration.

At that time, Jonny was the MD of an electronics design consultancy within the defence and medical industries, and was looking for a new challenge. His first project on the classic Porsche 911 was an upgraded CDI ignition unit in the original style, but with modern electronics inside. This unique mappable twin-spark ignition was CE approved and proved a successful product, with hundreds now in use around the world.

The CDI ignition unit was followed by an upgraded plug-and-play replacement fuse panel using modern blade fuses and with several innovations including integrated headlamp relays and blown fuse LED indicators. This again sold very well and has seen many imitations! The original panel remains the best and over 1,000 units have now been fitted successfully.

The real breakthrough for Classic Retrofit came when Jonny developed his exceptional electric air conditioning for classic cars, transforming the experience of driving a classic car all year round in any sort of weather. The system - along with the recommended upgraded high-powered alternator - has been incredibly successful and is used to great results by both DIY mechanics and professional car builders and OEMs in the world's most challenging climates.

Now employing 5 people and shipping its products worldwide from its East Sussex headquarters, Classic Retrofit has an enviable reputation within the classic car world. The core products have been complimented by a compact all-in-one air conditioning system for race cars and more, and Jonny and the team now consult and design complete HVAC systems for classic cars including full carbon or aluminium recreations by bespoke constructors, and for classic EV projects.

We also regularly consult with startups and established OEMs (details are limited due to non-disclosure agreements) including EV, supercar and racing car projects.

Workshop Wednesday - Week 3 2026

Welcome to our new weekly feature - where we take a snapshot of the activity in our workshop and lab - a peek behind the scenes

This week Jonny is working on the Heat Pump controller for the 993, Debbie is building up a batch of ECU’s, and Harry is busy putting the finishing touches to our new relay control board.

Behind the scenes, Jack is busy scheduling and planning, Martin is working on packaging, assembly and build instructions for our Defender A/C product, whilst yours truly is working with the good people @9.werks on a new blog piece for our website….

2026 is well and truly underway! We’re all working hard to get your orders packed, systems built and new products launched

Workshop Wednesday - Week 8 update

We’ve got a batch of Gen 2 Blowers, Smart Compressors, and regular compressors and ECU’s being processed ready to go into stock
The fulfilment team are busy packing and shipping your orders - thanks as always for your custom!

We are also working on our warehouse reorganisation - ready to accept the growing number of Land Rover Defender A/C system components ready for the imminent launch!

From wires, circuit boards, nuts and bolts, to finished products, boxed and ready to go

The final build and assembly process is only part of the story - the ongoing process of ordering parts, managing stock, tracking quality, never stops.

The Classic Retrofit workshop is back to full speed following our brief Easter break - we’re assembling and collating our first Land Rover Defender orders, with a high volume of fuse panels and CDI’s to ship.

There’s an extra buzz of activity in the workshop at the moment! Aside from the steady build up of parts for our Land Rover Defender A/C system, we have three very different blower evaporator units on the bench.

#1 is a first off pre production prototype that is bound for a very exciting restomod build. It’s compact, powerful and perfectly packaged for a small retro cabin. It’s been rigorously tested and now it’s ready to head to meet the car that is just out of paint…Sadly that’s about all we can say!

Blower #2 is an update of our all time classic the 911 Gen2 - we’ll feature this in a post in more detail soon, but at the heart of it is a brand new custom evaporator - for better cooling (and heating) in the same form factor that’s a perfect fit in F and G Body 911’s.
#3 is a 964 suitcase (or Klimakasten) bound for the 964Turbo in build with @carboneliveries for all round top bloke @mikebrewer
