Help! 69 911T with a Knock!

Post by MartyP1967 »

Hello Everyone,

Brand new here!

I'm after some help please.

My 1969 Sand Beige 911T 2.0 has a small knock in the engine and looking for a specialist in the south of the UK who can look at it, diagnose it and do a reasonable priced repair on the engine in a reasonable time frame - any recommendations / contact details gladly recieved! Busy time of year I know but PM me with any ideas?

The engine was rebuilt in 2016 so not sure what's going on and I know if will difficult to say without pulling it apart...

Alternatively I may end up selling it as it is if anyone one wants a tidy LWB car to repair themselves? The car was rebuilt in 2016/17 with a lot of time and money spent on it!

Many thanks,
Martin

I think I'd start with whoever rebuilt the engine 10 years ago. If not there are quite a few specialists, where are you and is the car drivable?

Thanks. It was a welsh company - and for the previous owner. Starts and drives and I'm in Hampshire so central south...

Not sure where you are based, but Carrera Performance are based near Horsham. They look after my car. I’ve not have any engine work, but know that they do rebuilds are part of the services they offer.

Their number is 01403 891911.

Could you expand on the 'small knock'. Can you assess if its coming from the block or one or both sides?

A mechanical stethoscope is the best thing to use, but a screwdriver held against your head will work.

Yes worth trying to get a bit more context - may be a case of not driving it anywhere

In terms of context I have had one expert listen to it and their opinion is that it sounds like one of the 6 and maybe a rod bearing (small end possibly?) but they couldn't touch it until May hence the search... I'm not risking driving it and able to trailer it with a mate.

Thanks.

I've used and can recommend Russell Lewis. Few people know an air-cooled engine like he does. He's near Camberly but will hop in his van and come to you. Easier than trailering it to him; rsrengineering@btinternet.com

Thanks Keith - he's already replied and is coming Monday - definitely sounds like a good guy!

Anyway glad you're still playing around with cars - blast from the past from my old VW days!

Cheers,
