Thank you for all the kind words and support over the year, it really is appreciated :)

When being teased that the sound didn't work on my engine vid I replied that I'd hopefully post some noise before Christmas!

....as ever though the car continues to fight any deadline!

The oil tank had to be removed due to an oil leak from the stud welds at the sender, a simple fix once removed but a pain getting the tank out even with the flares!...

Image

Image

I'd purchased three original fuel pumps and as expected they all leaked....plan was to rebuild them anyway and just as well as one didn't look too pretty once stripped...

Image

Image

...now fully tested and performing better than the minimum 2000cc flow rate needed....

Image

Image

...engine and box now fully connected with Gary testing a couple of different springs on the slide throttles for maximum efficiency...

Image

....and steering wheel is delicious and as good as it gets 8) ...I've decided I will be going with the racing look...

Image

....Gary is now taking a break until the New Year with Nick lined up to visit and set the car up as soon as final items are finished. Noise it is in January then!......Hopefully!!!

Wishing you all a fabulous festive season :)

The RS is pretty much finished now, I'll take a few final detail pics and post soon.

After sorting an ignition teething issue last week I went along to GDC on Thursday to watch Gary and Nick start the car for the first time (click pic to see video)....

Image

....unfortunately this was also the car's first fail! :( ....note the abrupt stop at the end of the vid!

....for some reason the car had lost spark again!

The whole ignition system had been taken off the car the week before for Nick to test on a rig and all had been resolved. Now baffled with no rational explanation the decision was made to do the same again and test it for a longer period however removing the distributor cap and attempting to set the engine to TDC it was found the dizzy wasn't turning, hence no spark!

Whereas the dizzy had slid in and out of the engine without any issue the week before, removing it now required a bit of force with debris noticeable on the end of ring gear!......Gary pointed out that the ring gears changed after 77, first when the distributor changed to a counter clockwise rotation, and then again when this was reverted switching to a slightly larger ring gear.

Nick checked the the new dizzy against my old one which confirmed the new one had been supplied and fitted with the wrong size ring gear! :(

...the engine now has internal damage to the brass bush which the dizzy slides into.....this now means engines out, a complete strip, clean and rebuild!

What should have been a momentous day celebrating a long, hard 7-year restoration turned into my worst effing nightmare! :?

Correct spec distributor ordered and correct for the the year, I dare say the German dizzy supplier is aware of the issue as there must have been a faulty batch but is ignoring my messages.....purchased 5 years ago with what had always been a difficult language barrier between us, I'm not expecting any help!

Fortunately I'm in safe hands and Nick has vowed to turn things around in double quick time.....

...and the engine did sound fabulous! :) 8)

Oh no! Have been there before on two engines, neither the fault of the builder. Feel for you

…I literally could have cried Andy! I knew what was coming as soon as I saw small particles on the end of the dizzy but as Wayne said, no fault from the people involved and just unlucky that I chose the wrong dizzy supplier!

Fair to say this project has nigh-on broke me…..cost, time, delays, set-backs etc, they’ve all ground me down, I should have put my money into a 964RS at the outset and enjoyed that over the years…….now giving serious consideration to selling the car as soon as it’s finished although the car is delicious and absolutely on the button in every respect so we’ll see.

Turning the engine around won’t take long and everyone is pushing to finish this project so hopefully I’ll have some better news soon.

Thanks all for the support :thumbleft:

I take it the engine is still a 3.0Lt Carrera engine at base,

if so there are 3 diffrent Disi' drives and also the drive gear on the crank has 2 types depending on the year and who did the recall on it in it's earler life,

I would not say it is the disi' suppliers fault,

I will find the info and send it down to you.
