It would have been much easier to go with a fibreglass rear bumper but you know me!…

Nearly there! Onto interior competition mods next, including roll hoop threaded plates, dead pedal & harness mounts…

More progress to report:

The ex-Russell Edmonds NOS dead pedal ("Foot support", part number 901.501.825.00) has been spot-welded in place:

The Carpoint Sturzbügel (safety bar) and 110l tank are also being trial fitted, although some straightening of the vertical tubes on the former will be needed to get it to fit:

One of the trademark features of the 1972 2.5 911 SR was the fact the diagonal bar went from above the passenger seat to behind the driver's seat, permitted by Appendix J regulations but different to its predecessor, the '70-'71 2.3 ST and also the 2.8 RSR in'73 - the latter seem below:

Looking great Matt,
I really should have mounted the battery cut off there but put it under the bonnet. Might change that over the winter though.

I can't wait to see this chassis rolling before Christmas! With all the parts preparation and the engine that you did beforehand, the reassembly won't be too complicated I imagine :)

I don't quite agree with you Matteo about the 2.8L RSR, all the ones I know, apart from some prototypes, they all had what I call "the M491 roll cage" as I call it, or Sturzbügel (same as 2.5L S-R) ;)

PS: is it 911 360 1155 ? or 911 360 0915?

Oops! Happy to be corrected Leirbag! I certainly don't know everything about these cars, and RSR's even less so! I just saw this in Konradsheim's RS book and assumed they were all like that but perhaps not...

I do know that the some of the earlier 1970-71 STs had the diagonal going the other way - or at least the #45 911S of Bardini / Tourol did:

This is interesting too - in 1970-73 PET. Note the diagonal arrangement (and their drawings are usually pretty accurate depictions)...

I don't really have the answer to why they changed the roll cage one way, then the other.

According to my data, the cars assembled at the factory:
Until 1970, the roll cage consisted of only a rim.
In 1971, a reinforcement was installed behind the driver.
In 1972 and 1973, the M491 roll cage with the reinforcement installed the other way (passenger side).

The photo you show me with #45 Bardini/Touroul is either the modified factory roll cage (119 30 0932 was a factory car in 1969), or a roll cage purchased from the factory in 1971/1972.

I can't find it back, but there's a somewhat well-known picture where you can see a 911 in the background, and the list of parts available for the competition kit. We can see the roll cage, which is a "driver" roll cage, different from the M491 roll cage.
