Royal Mail suspends shipments to the USA ...

Post by Lightweight_911 »

"Royal Mail will stop accepting parcels heading for the USA due to the impact of Trump's new tariffs. From today, shipments will be suspended until a new service is launched, which will include an extra fee.

Royal Mail is not the only postal service operator to do this across Europe. Donald Trump signed an order last month to scrap a tax exemption that allowed goods worth $800 or less to enter the USA duty-free. The exemption will be removed on Friday, August 29."

I hope so as they are bringing some parts from Rebel Racing in CA for me. Is say bringing…the cheapest postage was $106 for something weighing less than a kilo and not large. It has been touring CA for the last 2.5 weeks and has only just got on a plane today….. Lots of people on Pelican don’t rate ISPS but I was in the hands of Rebel's courier of choice….

Whatever happens, Royal Mail isn't going to pay the tariffs - that'll be down to the person sending the goods, meaning, I suspect, more forms to fill in at the point of posting... This the same scenario as the post-Brexit mess which has resulted in several smaller EU-based companies stating that they will no longer send goods to the UK.

I read on another Facebook page today that it’s back up with a new tariff charge

"From Thursday 28th August, customers can use our new PDDP (Postal Delivery Duties Paid) service, which meets the new US customs requirements and minimises work for sending customers".

I just tried to test the system but it only seems to be showing prices for the UK at the moment.

The system is now 'live' online so I tested it with a hypothetical package to the US

As an example a small package weighing 1kg & valued at £150 sent via their International Tracked service will now cost:

Postage - £16-50

Customs fees - £22-50

Handling fee - £0-50

New total cost = £39-50

DHL / FedEx / UPS would probably be cheaper
