Hi Wilf: surprised you've had no replies to this. My Haynes is not around at the moment, but according to my 2.4's handbook: 9 litres.

Having said that, I found that it took nearer to 12 litres to fill my previous 2.4 Either way, if you start with a couple of gallons, it would be enough to start it to check the level. I'm sure you know, but just in case, refill with 8 litres or so. Start up EDIT: allow to fully warm EDIT, whilst still idling, check the level on the dipstick.

Like I say, I'm sure you knew that anyway

If it has a front mounted oil cooler it will be more. Also make sure the engine is at operating temp before taking oil level readings.

BTW, why do you need to wait for full operating temp, Alan: is is to make sure the thermostat has opened? Also, were there some larger tanks: my Gulf Blue car definately took just under 12 litres, but had no external oil cooler

Hi Barry,

Yes, later tanks are larger. The difference in oil capacity is noted in the spec book: 9 liter oil qty for '69-'71, and 10 liter oil change qty for '73-up cars. Interestingly Barry, as "Per the spec book, '73 911S and RS 2.7 tanks are listed as 11.0/13.0 liter min/max system capacity ... same as '74 thru '89 models with front coolers".

You need to wait for full operation temp because oil like most things expand when hot and this effects the level.
