WTB Mahle 95mm 9:8:1 pistons & cylinders
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a set of Mahle 9:8:1 pistons & cylinders for a RoW SC engine I'm rebuilding.
I'm in Canada and having troubles getting these on this side on the pond for a fair deal.
Doesn't have to be new, good used (within spec) condition is fine.
This is my first post here but go by the same username on Pelican Parts if any wants to check me out.
Thanks,
Garrick

Long shot but Jacques Le Friant in CA is I think an agent for a different position maker. He is a 4 cam specialist and mostly involved in the design but has forgotten more about pistons than most of us know so will not recommend crap. He might be able to suggest an alternative from his supplier. Your side of the pond

Hi Garrick,
I do have a set of used set of 3 litre pistons for 204 bhp engine. They were bought new by me from a race engine that had damage, but were salvaged and ran very successfully in my engine until I had high compression ones put in. There is only damage on the crowns and they have had very little use. If you are interested I will send you some pictures.
Regards
Ian

What’s the extent of the crown damage? Is it just cosmetic?
Also, have the skirts, ring lands, and ring gaps been measured and confirmed in spec?
Appreciate any photos you can share.
Garrick

Hi Garrick,
I bought the barrels and pistons new for my race engine and unfortunately had a bent valve which caused failure of 1 piston and barrel. It sucked debris from the rings in that barrel onto the crowns of the other 5 pistons, I stripped the engine and flatted any high point. I bought 1 new barrel and piston and the engine was rebuilt using these pistons and performed brilliantly with full compression. I will try to show some pictures, but they will not be high quality. The damage is I believe cosmetic.
I have not measured any of the pistons as I was not using them again, but you should be able to see from pictures that there is little wear.
I will PM you with pictures a little later if that is okay and see what measurements I can make.
Regards

Here are some pictures of the pistons. I don’t think you can see PMs.

Thanks for the information and photos, Ian. I’m interested.
I would love to know the piston skirt diameter and ring land gap if you can get those measurements.
I’m not sure why I get view PM. Please send me a message at garrick.bs@gmail.com.
Cheers,
Garrick

Hi Garrick,
I will send you some more photographs to your email including the worst piston I can find. I have measured the skirt with a caliper and it seems to be 94.96. I have not heard of ring land gap, but have ordered a micrometer of the right size to measure, but this will not arrive until later in the week.
