I'm now back at work in London and the car is in Belgium. I'm considering the possibility that something else happened (but hoping not). If I don't get anywhere with the insurance. I think the next option will be to rent a trailer and pick up myself

Hi Neil, Really sorry to hear about your car problems. It's been great following your epic European adventure and that excellent little 356 has done you proud. Reckon I'd be very tempted to head back to Belgium with spares and a toolkit to bring it back myself. Good luck

Yes I agree but I'm trying to be calm. The car is safe and secure. I think the car will be brought back. If not I have a couple of options. One of them involved me taking the bus back with a battery and coil to get it working. I have almost every other spare in the car.

IIRC the RAC has 2 or 3 levels, just the price goes up.
2 years ago I did quite a search as an alternative to RAC/AA but found the RAC offered the best all-round package for us.

When my Boxster played up we were on the RAC basic, but all was well.

They all will try to minimise the costs to them, but it seems to be a lottery. I was obviously very lucky.
Thanks for your comments - a bit of research needed but hopefully it won’t be needed Image

My comments would be that you have to take control of the process yourself.

Carry some basic spares that coil, points, etc. Graham was able to hand the part to the garage and this helped.

If you do break down and get recovered to a garage. Get on your phone immediately and look for a local specialist. If your car can't be fixed then. Organise onward travel and rent car yourself etc. if you wait for RAC to do this it will be frustrating. Partly because they are busy and not as motivated as you.

Unlike me, if it does happen remain calm and consider it part of the adventure.
