What's the best solution for easy extra oil cooling on a pre 74 car?

I've a 911T with a slightly hotter engine going in, somewhere between E and S I think, although with higher compression. Con rods are notched for extra oil flow to cool the piston crowns. What are good, simple options for extra oil cooling? The sills are closed up so I don't think a front oil cooler is the way to go. Do people ever add cooling to the tank or some simple-to-execute location at the rear of the car?

IMO the only way of getting (effective) additional oil cooling is to use a front-mounted cooler.

I've had 2 911's in the past where previous owners added a front oil cooler (28-row brass version in both cases) but, rather than utilise the rigid external sill-mounted pipes, they used flexible oil hoses.

One car was a 1970 model which had a 2.8 litre twin-pug engine (approx 255 bhp) & used flexible rubber oil hoses & the other was a 1973 911E with an uprated 2.4S engine which used stainless-braided oil hoses.

When I put my warmed-up 2.4 in my hillclimb 911 in 1992 I added the rigid sill pipes/loop and it's stat to the car. That worked for years/decades and still on the car cooling the stock 3.2 engine @180 deg F.

Such a system may be a bit ££££ now, but have seen them on ebay recently.

Corrosion of the stat housing threads could be an issue today.

What temperatures do you expect to get to? A good synthetic oil can still be stable up until 120c and beyond?

On my 911 I've found the cooling issue to be when caught in slow traffic in the summer, not driving the car hard.

Rob, I think I would consider trying the car with out an external cooler first v your normal driving (?)y
Way way back i seem to remember an Autofarn 911 with an additional wide thin cooler just inside the engine bay across the rear latch cross member.

Oil cooler pipes didn’t go through the sills on later pre 73 cars anyway so copy the factory set up for a 73.

Nice solution from JH I think but a bit vulnerable to road debris?

You can get a kit from Design911 with (I think) all you need, but really expensive that emulates the pre73 factory system.
